How to install Java 8 on Ubuntu 14.04

Java JDK 8 , Java JDK 1.8 , is an essential development kit for Computer programming. It required for many programming language and IDKs. For example, If you are a PHP developer and you need PHPStorm , a great tool for PHP, required JDK. In this tutorial we write about Java 8 installation steps. Windows users can download JDK from Oracle website. JDK archive files available on Oracle website, but this method will be easier one.


1. Open terminal

2. Enter below command and add java 8 repository.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java

3. Enter password

4. Type following command to update software repository.

sudo apt-get update


5. Wait untill it complete


6. Enter last command

sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-installer


It will then connect oracle website and download files. After that it automatically install Java 8 on your system.

7. Check your Java version, Open terminal and type

javac -version

8. Set Java environment variable.

sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-set-default
